STL Doulas of Color

Welcome to Jamaa Birth Village a sacred pregnancy and birth space, where Doulas support you and the type of birth experience that you want! A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a person who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. Most often the term doula refers to the birth doula, or labor support companion. Our Doulas of Color collective members are trained and skilled to support all births in all birth settings and are experienced in providing you with unique and personalized care.

How do I start Doula services? If you'd like a doula or are in need, please contact us by email or phone for a free consultation. Make sure to have your estimated due date, insurance type (if you don't have insurance it's okay) and zip code available when calling.

How much does a Doula cost? The STL Doulas of Color collective members operate on a sliding scale fee program ranging in costs from $360-$960 depending on your income level. To determine your income bracket and pay range, click here to access our form. Make sure to have this information available when contacting our village support team for Doula care.

Does Jamaa Birth Village Doula's take private insurance or Medicaid? The St. Louis Doulas of Color Collective Doulas are not in-network with private insurance companies, and most expecting parents who have private insurance pay out of pocket. However, if you have a flex spend account, there is a possibility that your insurance provider will cover your Doula care expenses. Contact your employer or insurance company to verify prior to calling to set up your Doula care. Currently Meidcaid does not cover Doula care services in the state of Missouri, however our collective is working steadfast to change this over the next couple of years.

What are my options? Jamaa Birth Village works with  10+ Doulas of Color collective members and hosts monthly "Nights with the Doula" to meet and get to know potential Doula partners. You'll find their information listed below. When calling to set-up Doula care services, you can request a particular Doula that suits you and your families needs.

STL Doulas of Color Collective- The STL Doula Collective© founded by Brittany "Tru" Kellman, empowers, connects and uplifts St. Louis area Doulas of color. Each Doula collective member listed below has unique specialties and areas of care that may fit your needs. We strongly encourage each expecting person or family to interview at least 2-3 Doulas or receive references from prior clients to ensure a comfortable and trusting experience. Many  Doulas of Color Collective members have completed DONA© approved training and have attended births. Their experience will be listed in their profiles. Click here for our full listing.
