Jamaa Birth Village offers walk-in breastfeeding support on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9am-5pm with our in-house village support team:
Lactation Peer Counselor-a support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
Certified Lactation Counselor©- members of the health care team who can provide knowledge and counseling about optimal and sub-optimal breastfeeding. CLCs understand that breastfeeding decisions are made by the mother, who may have values and goals different from the counselor. A counseling approach is used to gather information and provide appropriate support to the mother and her family. CLCs work as part of the health care team, assuring appropriate referrals and recommendations. CLCs are qualified to provide education, counseling and clinical management.
IBCLC- An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. under the direction of the US National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
Jamaa Breastfeeding Success Kit©- to receive a Jamaa Breastfeeding Success Kit© visit us at our Ferguson location or contact us to enroll in our Jamaa First Foods© & SNAPBack Nutrition© program. The kit includes:
Breastfeeding Pump- An electrical or manual pump with necessary accessories and education on individual use.
Nursing Bra- 1-2 fitted nursing bras will be provided.
Individual Breastfeeding Success Plan- A Jamaa Birth Village lactation specialist with support you in creating an individual plan for successful breastfeeding for parents who are working, in school or stay at home parents.
*This program is covered by Missouri Care through Medicaid.
Initial Breastfeeding Support: $125/2 hours
Follow-up Breastfeeding Support: $50/hour
Breastfeeding Success Kit: $250
